“I’ve written 12 books, and Cheryl has edited the last four. She’s the best because (1) She edits to maintain my voice and tone. (2) She teaches me as she edits. (3) She is kind and warm and never makes me cry! Because of working with Cheryl, I am a better writer and have produced better books. I still can't spell, but she is an editor and teacher, not a magician!”

“Without Cheryl’s help my stories would still be floating around in my head! An artist by education, I had no writing classes or experience, just the desire to tell a story for young readers and illustrate it. Cheryl encouraged me to take my writing seriously. She showed me ways to enhance my character descriptions and to develop a better flow from one sentence and idea to the next. Her ability to zero in on the details that matter has given my stories substance, and her quick wit has helped make my stories more fun.”

“I engaged Cheryl to help me with several short stories as well as a collection of memories I wish to pass on as part of my legacy. My writings can be inspired because of my unusual life, but they are often dry and unfocused. Cheryl's attention to the smallest details adds clarity, richness and color to my compositions. Cheryl is a true professional and has become both a friend and mentor.”

“I’ve been doing this writing stuff for a long time and know how to do it. I’m a professional. But everyone needs an editor, so when I wrote each of my books, I called Cheryl. Here’s why: She can tell you a piece of writing sucks without making you feel bad about it. She can make corrections or suggestions that aren’t cruel or condescending and do it all in a way that makes you feel you’re really improving your work, and isn’t that what an editor is all about?”

“Cheryl Jarvis, writer par excellence, is an author and friend whom I’ve often trusted to read and respond to my own work—she is simply the best!”

— Rosemary Daniell, author of 10 books, including Fatal Flowers: On Sin, Sex and Suicide in the Deep South

I started writing stories in a Lifelong Learning class on memoir. After two years of classes, I had a huge binder full of stories, which I wanted to turn into a book for my children and grandchildren. With Cheryl’s encouragement, prompting, insights, suggestions, and deep emotional questions, I wrote second and third drafts. Now I have a book that I’m really proud of. It wouldn’t have happened without her.
